Over time leather dries out, this is because it loses the oils which are there to protect it. This can result in the leather cracking and fading in colour. We replace these essential oils during the conditioning stage of our cleaning process, this will help to prevent your leather from drying out, cracking or suffering from loss of colour

Our Leather Cleaning Process

Stage 1)  Pre Clean Inspection: The first stage is to carry out an inspection on the leather you would like to have cleaned. We will identify the type of leather its made from, the most common types of leather we clean is aniline, pigmented suede and nubuck

Stage 2)  Power Vacuuming: We thoroughly vacuum your upholstery using an industrial powered vacuum cleaner with a HEPA filter. Prior to the vacuuming we brush the leather using a soft brush to release any dry soil , this enables us to extract as much dust, grit and other dry soil  as possible before we apply any solutions to the area we are cleaning

Stage 3) Treat Stubborn Stains: We then treat any stubborn stains with the appropriate pre-spray. Our pre-spray solution breaks-down the particles that form the stains. If your leather has been conditioned regularly then we should be able to remove a majority of stains, but if the leather hasn’t been conditioned regularly and the stain has worked its way into the colouring layer then it may not be possible to remove the stain without the risk  of damaging the coloured layer. If this is the case the leather will need to be repaired using a colouring balm. This is something we can offer you advice on but unfortunately we don’t offer a re-colouring service

Stage 4)  Citrus Gel Cleansing Treatment: We apply a mild citric acid cleaning gel to the leather using a soft, micro fibre cloth. The cleansing gel breaks down any surface grease, sanitises the leather and helps to remove odours. After the cleaning gel has had a few minutes to work we remove the gel using a damp cloth. The leather then needs to be given some time to dry before the next stage of the cleaning process can be carried out

Stage 5)  Neatsfoot Oil Conditioning Treatment: Once the leather is dry we apply 2 coats of neatsfoot oil condition balm. We give the balm time to soak into the leather before buffing off any  excess conditioner. We keep buffing the leather until we have restored the correct finish to the leather

Stage 8) Customer Inspection: We will then ask you to inspect the work we have done to make sure you are satisfied with the result. We will provide you with a receipt for the work and give you some advice on the best way to maintain your leather upholstery

Our Suede & Nubuck Cleaning Service

Cleaning suede and nubuck can be difficult as the hide can easily be damaged if care isn’t taken when carrying out the cleaning process. Unlike smooth leather, this material is made with a napped surface, covered in lots of little fibres. These tiny fibres make the material highly absorbent so it will quickly soak up liquid spillages. The fibres will also become matted over time and this will result in a discoloured appearance

Our Suede & Nubuck Cleaning Process

Stage 1)  Pre Clean Inspection: The first stage is to carry out an inspection on the suede or nubuck upholstery you would like to have cleaned. There is not really that much difference in the appearance of suede and nubuck. Suede leather has been sanded on the inner layer of the skin, where as Nubuck has been sanded on the outer layer of skin. The outside layer of a skin is tougher so Nubuck tends to be more durable and harder wearing than suede

Stage 2)  Power Vacuuming: We will thoroughly vacuum your upholstery using an industrial powered vacuum cleaner with a HEPA filter. Prior to the vacuuming we brush the nap of the hide using a copper brush. This helps to release dry soil from the fibres and enables us to extract as much dust, grit and other dry soil as possible before we start applying any solutions on to the area we are cleaning

Stage 3) Treat any Stubborn Stains: We then treat any stubborn stains with the appropriate pre-spray. Our pre-spray solution breaks-down the particles that form the stains. If the suede or nubuck hasn’t been regularly treated with a stain shield and the stains have sunk deep into the hide then it could be tricky to remove the stain because wet cleaning suede or nubuck is not advisable due to the difficulty in drying this material. If the suede or nubuck doesn’t dry quickly it will create an unpleasant odour which would  be difficult to remove. We tend to use solvent based cleaners such as isopropyl alcohol to clean and sanitise the fibres as the solvent dries quicker than water

Stage 4)  Restoring the nap of the hide: If the tiny fibres on the nap of the hide have become matted and damaged we will have to remove these damaged fibres and create new fibres. This is done by brushing the hide with a fine bristled copper brush. The copper brush cuts away the old nap and creates new fibres by pulling them up from the hide

Stage 5)  Post Clean Vacuuming: We thoroughly brush and vacuum your suede or nubuck upholstery again to remove the old fibre. We then set the fibres in one direction so they reflect the natural  light, this will leave your upholstery looking uniformed and like it was when it was new

Stage 6)  Scotchgard Stain Shield Treatment: Once we have finished cleaning your suede or nubuck upholstery we apply a scotchgard stain shield. This will act as an invisible barrier and help to protect against most liquid and oil based stains. It will also help to reduce wear and make dry soil easier to remove when carrying out your regular routine vacuuming

Stage 7) Customer Inspection: We will ask you to inspect the work we have done to make sure you are satisfied with the result. We will provide you with a receipt for the work we have done and give you some advice on the best way to maintain your suede or nubuck
